Study Illustrates Need For Proper Lighting In Hospitals

A doctor meets with a patient in a well-lit hospital room.

The positive impact good lighting can have on a facility's environment and people's moods cannot be overstated. In fact, a recent article published in LightED Magazine stresses just how important optimal lighting levels can be in the healthcare industry.

The article refers to a U.K. study which claims patients who were in newly-refurbished hospital facilities were released on average a day-and-a-half earlier than those who were in older, poorly-lit buildings.

Proper lighting is not only vital to healthcare workers doing their jobs well, but it helps improve patient attitudes and is important for patient and visitor wayfinding inside the facility.

From the reception area to hallways, patient rooms, nursing stations, operating rooms, and even access roads to the hospital, each has an ideal lighting level to function efficiently.
